If you debrand it, you will no long able to acess MEdia Net. That means you wouldn’’t be able to sent MMS or access to internet. （only sms）
You do not need to unlock the phone prior to firmware flashing. Every flash consists of three files, not a simple firmware. （which I already includs entire set of file from my download link）
If you follow the procedure link I provided, you will be able to flash it w/out problem.

In other word, all data service will ceased to function after new firmware. However, all non-data features such as voice, voice mail, sms, music will remain functional.
